How To Upload a Budget from Excel with Dimension Details to Microsoft Business Central
When you create a budget within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can export it to Excel and have full access to the Excel spreadsheet. This will allow you to fill out all line items in the budget and then simply import the budget back into Dynamics. The import will allow you to import for different Dimension for that budget amount.
In this example, we will upload a Dimension budget for the entire year.
To create a budget by dimensions open G/L Budgets and then select New.
Process-Edit Budget – This will open the Budget you have chosen to have the G/L account category filter for this example of ‘Expense’ and to have periods as columns, so you can work on the entire year budget at once for a specific Dimension.
Next choose Process-Export to excel.
In this example we have selected to the budget for Dimension code.
The Excel template has now been created. Next we will need to populate the budget amounts for each account per period for the Sales Dimension.
After the Excel file is populated with the data, this can then be imported in to Dynamics Process-Import from Excel. We have chosen in this example to Add Entries.
Then select OK and browse and pick up the excel file you wish to import. The system will confirm the budget Added. Once imported the system will show a message with the number of successful entries that were uploaded.
After the budget data is loaded, it will display in the budget window. You can click the link to see the details.
Or you can browse entries per Period.
