What will the role include?
As an Accounts Payable Controller, you will play a key role in managing our company’s financial records. Responsible for the whole purchase ledger process, from PDN through to invoices and reconciliation. Implementing and maintaining robust processes and systems.
Maintaining a high level of communication both internally and with suppliers via email and telephone. Ensuring timely payment of all supplier invoices within their agreed payment terms.
You will provide a professional and efficient service to the finance function, routinely updating all records and having a good knowledge and understanding of the status of all supplier accounts on your ledger. Liaising closely with the wider team and directly with suppliers to resolve purchase invoice queries promptly ensuring no pricing / service issues and providing accurate financial information to the Senior Leadership Team as needed.
Working Pattern: Mon – Fri (5.5 hrs per day including unpaid 30 min lunch break).
Choice of start time: 8am, 8.30am or 9am.
Location: Scunthorpe.
Responsibilities
Within this role, some of the key areas you will be responsible for are:
- Processing and recording supplier invoices and credit notes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Matching purchase orders with invoices and resolving discrepancies.
- Reconciling supplier statements to ensure all outstanding invoices are accounted for.
- Preparing payment runs and processing supplier payments.
- Handling supplier inquiries and resolving payment-related issues.
- Maintaining organised and up-to-date records in the purchase ledger.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end financial closings.
- Collaborating with other finance team members on ad-hoc projects and tasks.
Knowledge & Experience (Essential)
Here’s why you’ll be great in this role…
- Proven experience as an Accounts Payable Controller or in a similar role.
- Experienced in Excel and Microsoft office packages.
- Knowledge of software packages such as Exchequer and BACS.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of self-motivation.
- Ability to work independently and is also an exceptional team player, with strong collaboration skills to support not only the finance team but the wider team across multiple areas of the business.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
Desirable – But not essential!
- AAT Level 2 qualification or equivalent (or significant accounting / business & finance knowledge)
