That’s where Microsoft InTune bridges the gap. Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based endpoint management solution. It manages user access and simplifies app and device management across your many devices, including mobile devices, desktop computers and virtual endpoints.

Then couple that with Autopilot, and you can simplify the whole Windows device lifecycle, for both IT and end users, from initial deployment to end of life. From the user’s perspective, it only takes a few simple steps to make their device ready to use. From your IT team or partners’ perspective, the only interaction required from the end user is to connect to a network and to verify their credentials. Everything beyond that is automated.

It has built-in app experience, including app deployment, updates and removal capabilities. You can connect to and distribute apps from your private app stores, enable Microsoft 365 apps, deploy Win32 apps, create app protection policies and you can manage access to apps and their data. In short, it means you have complete control over apps on devices and any patches that are required on those apps or devices, without the need to configure each individual machine.

The process is simple. In Intune, you create policies that configure features and settings, and they provide security and protection. The devices are fully managed by you, including the user identities that sign in, the apps that are installed and the data that’s accessed. When devices enrol, you can deploy your policies during the enrolment process. When enrolment completes, the device is ready to use.

That means every one of your devices has up-to-date defences to protect them from cyber threats, so you can focus on other value-adding tasks.

Microsoft Autopilot

Technically speaking, when initially deploying new Windows devices, Windows Autopilot uses the OEM-optimised version of Windows client. This version is preinstalled on the device, so you don’t have to maintain custom images and drivers for every device model. Instead of re-imaging the device, your existing Windows installation can be transformed into a “business-ready” state that can apply settings and policies, install apps and change the edition of Windows being used to support advanced features.

Better still, it integrates with Intune. With Windows Autopilot, you can provision new devices and send these devices directly to users. For existing devices, you can reimage these devices to use Windows Autopilot and deploy the latest Windows version. That means, from anywhere, you can set up a new device for an employee with all of the correct security and device settings – so you have peace of mind that the system is secure and ready to go for your team member, which is a far more efficient way of working.
