Thinking about implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central? We help businesses work out what they need, what the project could involve and what to do next. Backed by experience of 300+ ERP implementations, The HBP Group gives you greater clarity before you commit.
This page will help you understand the different routes available depending on where you are in your ERP journey — whether you’re still exploring your options and want to understand if Business Central is the right fit, or you’re already confident in the platform and ready to start defining your project.
There isn’t one single starting point for every Business Central project. The right approach depends on how far along you are in your decision-making journey and how much clarity you already have around your requirements.
At The HBP Group, we offer two different routes to help you move forward with confidence:
Our 360° ERP Assessment takes a broader look at your current systems, business processes, challenges and future plans. It helps establish what needs to change and what your business genuinely needs from its next ERP platform.
We’ll help you identify priorities, explore opportunities for improvement and consider whether Business Central is an appropriate fit before moving into detailed project planning.
What you’ll come away with:
A clearer understanding of your requirements, the challenges your future ERP needs to address and the most appropriate next step for your business.
Solution Design turns Business Central from your preferred platform into a more clearly defined project. We’ll work through your requirements and how they could be met, including integrations, data migration and any additional functionality.
We’ll also explore the proposed scope, delivery approach, costs and timescales, helping you understand what the implementation involves before making the larger commitment.
What you’ll come away with:
A clearer picture of the proposed solution, implementation scope and commercial considerations to support an informed investment decision and internal or board approval.
Not every business starts from the same place. Some are still working out whether Business Central is the right fit, while others are already confident in the platform and need to understand what implementation will involve.
The questions you’re asking can help identify your next step. Which of these sounds most like the conversations happening in your business today?

Turn Business Central into a clearly defined project by working through your requirements, scope, integrations, data, delivery approach and commercial expectations.
Use the agreed scope and proposal to secure internal sign-off and make an informed decision about moving into implementation.
With the project defined and approved, implementation can begin with greater clarity around what needs to be delivered and how.
With over 30 years' experience supporting UK SMEs, we've scoped and delivered Business Central and ERP projects across manufacturing, distribution, professional services and finance — reflected in our 4.8 rating on Clutch.
That experience means we've already seen where quotes go wrong — licences bought without mapping usage, projects scoped without proper discovery, costs that creep once implementation starts. We apply what's worked, and avoided what hasn't, so your quote reflects your business from the outset.
Business Central produced trusted management reports three times faster, with clearer visibility across projects, funds and cost centres.
“People are happier, the information is trusted, and we’re moving faster than ever before.”
Charles Benn, Business Partner
Shine streamlined manual finance processes, saved valuable time each week and reduced finance system costs by 20%.
“You absolutely went the extra mile. You understood our limitations and worked with us brilliantly.”
Steve Ellen, Director of Finance
Business Central automated repetitive tasks for Hinchliffe Hydraulics, saving more than a working week of time each year.
“I want to automate, use Power BI and include AI. Business Central gives us that foundation.”
Stewart Hinchliffe, Finance Director
No. You can speak to The HBP Group while you’re still considering your options. We can help you explore your requirements and understand whether Business Central is worth taking forward. You don’t need a finished project brief or to know which planning route you need before getting in touch.
A 360° ERP Assessment looks at your current systems, processes, challenges and future plans to help establish what your business needs from its next ERP system.
Solution Design is for businesses that have identified Business Central as their preferred platform and need to define the requirements, scope, costs and delivery approach before implementation.
No — the 360° ERP Assessment isn’t a mandatory first step. If you’re already confident Business Central is the right direction, you can move straight into discussing Solution Design. The assessment is an alternative starting point for businesses that need a broader review before deciding which platform to take forward.
Start with what is prompting the change: the problems you want to solve, the systems you currently use and what you want to improve. Any initial thoughts on budget, target dates and who needs to be involved are also useful. You don’t need to arrive with every requirement documented — identifying those requirements is part of the planning process.
It helps to involve someone who can make project decisions, alongside the people who understand your day-to-day processes. Depending on your business, that could include finance, operations, purchasing, sales, warehouse teams and IT. Bringing the relevant people into planning helps establish priorities and identify requirements that might otherwise be missed.
Those are useful things to discuss early. Tell us which processes are specific to your business, which systems need to remain and what information needs to move between them. We can help identify what needs investigating before you make a platform or implementation decision, rather than assuming everything must be replaced.
The time needed depends on the breadth of the review, the complexity of your requirements and the availability of the people involved. A broader ERP assessment and a detailed Business Central design engagement serve different purposes, so they won’t necessarily follow the same timetable. An initial conversation helps establish the appropriate scope and a realistic timescale.
Yes. Solution Design helps establish a clearer picture of the proposed project so costs can be considered against defined requirements rather than broad assumptions. Areas such as data migration, integrations, additional functionality, training and delivery scope all need to be considered when building that picture.
Yes. Solution Design is a paid discovery and scoping engagement, rather than an initial enquiry or product demonstration. It focuses on defining your proposed Business Central project before you commit to implementation. Speak to our team about what the engagement would include and the associated fee.
It can help you build a stronger proposal by clarifying what you’re asking the business to invest in. The proposed scope, expected costs, delivery approach and internal resource requirements give decision-makers a more informed basis for reviewing the project, including the assumptions and dependencies that need consideration.
After a 360° ERP Assessment, the next step depends on the findings. If Business Central is an appropriate direction, you may move into Solution Design; other questions or preparation may need addressing first.
After Solution Design, you can review the proposed project internally and decide whether to proceed. Implementation follows once the scope, commercial arrangements and necessary approvals are in place.
