How Our Colocation Services Work

Colocation is an IT strategy that involves renting space in a data centre for your own IT equipment (which you own) in order to take advantage of the existing power, cooling, space, bandwidth and security (physical and cyber) of an existing provider. Our own data centre provides exactly this and we provide businesses with the ability for them to benefit from our existing centre at a secure premises, fast connectivity and a complete support package.

24/7 Physical Security

Our data centre is located in a private and safe location, with a gated border, access systems on all doors, finger print access to server rooms and 24/7 monitored CCTV and alarm services across the property. This ensures that our data centre, and the data within it, is protected at all times.

High-Speed Connectivity

The connectivity to any data held in our data centre must be able to be accessed quickly by all of our clients, which is why we provide high-speed connectivity across all of our services, but can also provide dedicated lease lines for your own servers to maximise speed and ensure consistency of speed at all times.

Disaster Recovery

As well as providing physical and remote backup options within our data centre we also offer physical office space in the event of a disaster. This allows us to provide our customers with a space in our office where key members of staff can work from if their office becomes unavailable due to a disaster.

What Is Colocation and How Does It Work?

A colocation IT strategy is alternative to buying and hosting servers, and other IT equipment, at your own premises and instead allows you to host your own equipment within another provider’s data centre.

Cloud IT Support

This strategy is designed to take advantage of the high-speed internet, physical security, cyber security, cooling and power from an existing data centre which are highly likely to be of a much higher capability that an individual business can afford to put in place.

In practice Colocation IT hosting services provides a Cloud based infrastructure where end users access systems remotely, providing all of the benefits of a cloud IT network. The difference is that the physical servers and IT equipment is not rented, it is owned by the customer, and space in the data centre is rented so it can run from there.

Using Colocation IT services provides all of the benefits of Cloud IT hosting, which typically focus on cost savings, flexibility and business continuity.

However, normally one of the reasons to move to the Cloud for businesses is to reduce the need to buy IT equipment which will need replacing in the future. Colocation provides an alternative approach to this where a business prefers to buy and own their physical equipment but still wants to benefit from the high speed connectivity, physical security, cyber security, power and cooling facilities of a data centre.
